To minimize or avoid telephone toll charges, use a number in the city closest to you. Also, select a number which supports the highest speed your modem can handle. All dialups use 1 stop bit. Use full duplex, 8 data bits, and no parity. Set your terminal emulation to vt100. When you get a connect message, enter a few returns (-return- or -enter- on your keyboard) to alert the terminal server to your presence.
