Logging Into Your PILOT Account

Connecting to a Dialup

  • The first thing you need to do is connect to our dialups using your modem. A full List of Phone Numbers. to dial into is available.
  • When you first connect to the modem, you should see a screen similar to the one shown here. You will see a message indicating that you are connected to an NJIN server.
  • You are now asked to enter your username. This is to verify to the dialup that you are a valid user. Type your full username here (username@pilot.njin.net) and then your password, when prompted.

Connecting to PILOT

  • Now that you've verified yourself to the dialup, you are ready to connect to NJIN's server, PILOT .
  • You will see a prompt similar to the one shown here. At the prompt, type "pilot". The dialup will search for a few seconds, and then connect to the PILOT server.

Logging into PILOT

  • You are now connected to our server, and it is asking you to enter your username. This time, you only need to enter your username alone... without the "pilot.njin.net" extention.
  • So enter your username, and then your password when prompted.

Congratulations!

  • Congratulations! You are now logged in! The "Message of the day" appears, and then you may be prompted to enter your TERMINAL TYPE. This is a setting you can set from your software on your computer. Chances are, you will want a setting such as "vt100".
  • The default setting appears in brackets. You can press [ENTER] to accept this terminal setting, or you can type whatever setting you wish here.

Now What?

If you are unfamilliar with UNIX and UNIX commands, you will probably want to run our menu program. (If it hasn't started automatically already.) To do this, type the following two commands at the PILOT prompt:
      setenv TERM vt100 [ENTER]
      lush [ENTER]
Enjoy!
