Keynote Speaker Information:

Mary Wall, PhD, is Dean of Academic Computing and Distance Education at Atlantic Cape Community College, where they have 50 online sections and 5 complete degrees online this semester. She is also Chair of the Administrative Committee of the New Jersey Virtual Community College Consortium (NJVCCC), the consortium of all 19 NJ community colleges that share online courses. She has taught online courses since Fall 1996, using 4 different systems (html and Web pages, FirstClass, Serf, and WebCT.) The courses Dr. Wall has taught online include Self Management, Intro to Computers, Principles of Guidance for Parents and Teachers, and the Internet and the WWW. She has a PhD in Computer Technology in Education.

The morning seminar is made possible through the financial support of the UMDNJ Academic Information Technology Advisory Committee (AcITAC) and the UMDNJ Integrated Advanced Information Management Systems (IAIMS) Project.

Keynote Speaker Information:

Brian B. Shaw, JD, is a partner in the Rochester, NY law firm of Harter, Secrest & Emery LLP; their Web site is at http://www.hartersecrest.com/ Mr. Shaw received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University in 1985, and his JD degree from Cornell Law School in 1988. Brian is admitted to the Bar in New York, California, and the District of Columbia and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His expertise is in matters relating to patent, trademark, copyright and trade secrets. Brian's experience includes a diversified practice including computer law; mechanical intellectual property; biomedical technology including immunoassay evanescent wave guide technology and blood flow sensing and measuring; new media law and international intellectual property, identifying and clearing products through infringement issues, and negotiating technology transfers. A past president of the Rochester Intellectual Property Law Association, he has spoken frequently at Cornell University, the University of Rochester, the Rochester Institute of Technology, as well as other venues, on intellectual property and the Internet.
